I blame :icontariencole: (he blamed me for some random thing a few weeks ago, so he's due)

I've been sucked into this writer's crit site for the last few weeks. Pretty much ever since I posted my last journal entry. If you're writing original fiction it's a perfect place to get constructive feedback.

Maybe I only like it because they've perfected the Skinner box method for the medium, I have no idea (I don't delve too deeply into my motivations for doing things). But they do have a very solid feedback mechanism that seems to work, and the members are very active. And mature (within reason).

It is very geared toward writers keen on improving their work, not just sharing it. It's not like FFN or AO3 where you go to share stuff and your stuff sits there in the void until someone decides to read it. Scrib has a system that encourages its users to make the time to critique YOUR work. There are incentives for other users to critique new work that gets posted. It won't necessarily be immediate, but to give some perspective, I posted a chapter of a novella and within a week I'd had a half dozen other writers critique it.

It's all about getting the harsh crits to find out what you're doing wrong (or right), but the community so far has been incredibly inviting and constructive. And ACTIVE, which is a big deal to me. I honestly don't know how long this site's been active, but judging from the forum comments of a few members it's been several years.

So yeah... I've been a little distracted. And this is a good thing because it's encouraged me to refine my writing in different directions. I know it's distracted me from my current story, but I have a love/hate relationship with Second Skin at the moment. I will get back to it but I'm too busy playing in another toybox at the moment. Please forgive me.

I know exactly how you feel. It's taken a couple weeks of not writing to get a little perspective on my work and work out some of the finer details. Awesome news with the crit website, I hope you're getting everything you need from it!
